Week of November 25 - 29, 2019

Thursday HW
6A Notes:  This is homework for the grade 6 class I teach.
1.  20 minutes of reading.
2.  Complete a summary with a reflection on the News Journal you listened to today.  Students had significant time in class today to complete this work.
3.  The next book report is due on December 5, which is next week.

8F Notes: This is homework for the grade 8 class I teach.
a)  20 minutes of reading.
b)  We continued the characterization activity using two online videos (GI Joe and Barbie).  The links and instructions are posted on the Google classroom, but the work is to be done on the paper handout.  It is due in class on Tuesday, December 3.  We also introduced a new group assignment using a short story.  The topic was shared in class on a sheet with the expectations listed in detail.

Wednesday HW

b)  The Setting 1.0 sheet was our work today in class.  Both sides should be complete by tomorrow's class.  Highlighters were made available to students for the purposes of distinguishing significant setting words that would establish a mood - Yoho!

b)  The Mood/Tone related assignment was shared on the Google Classroom.  It is due on November 26. We looked at the final element of literature (Setting) again in class last week with reference to the trailer for "The Revenant" and then read another short story ("The Dinner Party") with a focus on setting in an activity sheet each student received.  The sheet is NOT homework, and will be continued in class tomorrow.

Week of November 18 - 22, 2019

GRADE 6 AND 8:  Recall that my Extra Help times are posted clearly in class.  If you are absent due to illness, vacation, or school activity, then you are obliged to come by during one of these times to catch up.  It is not possible to do this during class time while we are taking up new material.  You have two study buddies assigned to you in grade 6 to whom you can turn if you want to get some support as well.

b)  We discussed the plot graph and Summarizing 1,0, both of which were returned.  Summarizing 2.0 (reverse side) is due in Google Classroom on Wednesday.  Students may want to use the paper copy to plan before typing.
c)  Begin settling on a topic for a personal essay.  We looked at one in class on Uniforms in School and will work on another group topic about conformity before students write one on a topic of their choosing.
d) Remembrance Day writing activity, posted in the Google Classroom, was due on November 1.  The typed piece is to be "Turned In" rather than shared by email.  We looked at them in class to select a candidate to speak at the Remembrance Day ceremony.
