Week of February 25 - March 1, 2019

Friday HW
1.  Unit 4, Lessons 8 and 9 quiz on Monday, March 4.
2.  If you want to listen to Africville webquest audio/video in class, please bring along a pair of inexpensive earbuds to class.  Otherwise you can access the activity at home and listen to them there.
3.  Test packs have not been returned with parent signatures and corrections.  They are three days overdue.
4. We had a personal hygiene reminder today.  As we grow older, the need for for consistent hygiene habits becomes more apparent, especially in a large group in somewhat stuffy surroundings.
5.  Book Report reading.

Thursday HW

1.  Haiku should be done and decorated for tomorrow.  The theme was "Haiku at the Beach".  we used 9 x 6 manila paper for this three verse poem.

Week of February 18 - 22, 2019

Friday HW
1.  Bring a pair of earbuds for use to view primary source archive videos on CBC in class next week.
2.  Test Pack signed and corrected for next Wednesday, February 27.
3.  Lots of students need to return their report card envelopes.  Please have your child bring it in ASAP.

Thursday HW
1. MMS pp. 56-57
2.  Test Pack signed and corrected for next Wednesday, February 27.
3.  Bring a colourful photograph of a natural scene (no people) from a magazine for a poetry activity.
Math: Today we worked on multiplying decimals by 10, 100, and 1000. I checked a small diagnostic to find that about a third of the class could not reliably calculate these products with a calculator and a place value chart. We will revisit it tomorrow.
4.  Lots of students need to return their report card envelopes.  Please have your child bring it in ASAP.
Language: We submitted the last diamante poems.
Social Studies:  We wrote a point of view response to a Rosa Parks photograph.  Students were reminded to write in a the third person voice and use connections (to self, to world, to other texts) as a way to add their own ideas to the response.

Wednesday HW

2.  Test Pack signed and corrected for next Wednesday, February 27.
3.  Bring a colourful photograph of a natural scene (no people) from a magazine for a poetry activity.
Math: Today we worked on adding and subtracting decimals while I conferenced with several students about Tuesday's math quiz.
Language: We also completed a 16 word Diamante poem which was not finished as homework today by more than 10 students.  A detailed outline of the style of the poem is in the Google Classroom.  We started another poetry activity on imagery.  I read our Last Days in Africville novel, which is a lead-in to term two Social Studies, with Language connections.

Tuesday HW:
We did not have the minutes to copy the agenda today.  Our day looked like this:
(Math) We wrote the quiz first thing.
(Language) We worked on a Poetry exercise focused on Imagery.  Students did the work in-class in their Writing notebooks: a chart of senses imagery, a short poem analysis, an independent selection of verses from books. This was an opportunity for some anecdotal logging of Independent Work skills for the term 2 report card.
We also completed Diamante poem composition using the laptops.  I printed 18 poems of 33 that were ready by the end of period three.  Completing that 16 word poem is the only homework tonight.

Week of February 11 - 15, 2019

** Friday, February 15 is a PA Day -- No School. **


Thursday HW:
1.  Math Quiz on Unit Four, Lessons 1 to 5 on Tuesday, February 19.
Today we had just one period together.  We corrected the MMS homework, reviewed rounding to the nearest 100th, and looked at a sample problem involving estimation.  We took a short note in Math and then worked to complete and hand in the five sense poems.

Wednesday HW:
1.  MMS pages 52-53
2.  Math Quiz on Unit Four, Lessons 1 to 5 on Tuesday, February 19.
3.  5 Sense poems good copies due in class tomorrow.

Monday HW:
1. MMS pages 50-51
2.  Math Quiz on Unit Four, Lessons 1 to 5 on Wednesday, February 13.
3.  "Colour of my Dreams" sunglasses POV assignment was due on Friday February 8.  Only 11 of 33 were handed in.  Please complete and submit this assignment for grading as soon as possible.  Ample class time was provided to work on it in class, including and hour and forty minutes last Friday.
4.  Similes page with a portrait on the reverse side that is based on the similes you made.

Thursday HW:
1.  Colour of my Dreams -- two paragraphs should be submitted to the Google Classroom for tomorrow.
2.  Character and Setting placemats, as well as the illustrator page for the Literature Circle are due tomorrow.

Wednesday HW:
1.  Book Report is due tomorrow.
2.  Colour of my Dreams -- two paragraphs should be submitted to the Google Classroom for tomorrow.
3.  Rough Drafts of two five sense poems in your Writing notebook should be in class on Thursday.

Monday HW:
1.  No homework other than the Book report, which is due on Thursday.
