Week of February 24 - 28, 2014.

Friday HW
1.  Parent signature on Trickster Tale topic sheet/organizer is requested to ensure parents are aware of this upcoming in-class writing assignment.  This is a story that should be done in class and not at home.  We spent a period today modelling how a story organizer works, by looking at one of the trickster tales we read and plotting the components of the story into the organizer.
2.  Sign and correct measurement test package for Tuesday.
3.  Transformation Geometry quizzes that are upcoming:
a) Unit 7, Lessons 1 and 2 (coordinate systems and transformations) on Tuesday, March 4.
b) Unit 7, Lessons 3 and 4 (congruent figures and lines of symmetry) on Wednesday, March 5.
If your student is absent due to an early holiday, these are the lessons that should be completed in time for quizzes an day after he or she returns to school.

Thursday HW
1.  Review for Measurement Unit test (Unit 6, all 10 lessons) on Friday February 28.  Use the hard cover text and duo-tang materials as study aids.  Be sure to bring these back to school each day for Math class.
2.  MMS pages 98-99 (Lesson 3: Congruent Figures).
3.  Please take note of the short timeline for this Geometry Unit.  We end it before the March Break.  Please make time to catch up if you plan to depart for an early holiday.  The lessons covered are specified below.  We are finished up with three of the five lessons as of today.
4.  Test pack -- Measurement quizzes.  Sign and correct and return by Tuesday.  These formative quizzes should help students prepare for their unit test tomorrow.  If the test represents a big improvement I can use it to fill in gaps for grades for this strand.  The first quiz was particularly weak.  I don't think students paid attention to SI Notation rules and lost 6-10 easier marks on the first page.  The class average improved dramatically by the final quiz.
5.  Pizza day lunch tomorrow.
6.  Bring props for your Trickster plays if you wish.  Nothing valuable that you would regret losing or damaging please.
Wednesday HW
1.  Review for Measurement Unit test (Unit 6, all 10 lessons) on Friday February 28.  Use the hard cover text and duo-tang materials as study aids.  Be sure to bring these back to school each day for Math class.
2.  MMS pages 96-97 (Lesson 2: Transformations).
3.  Please take note of the short timeline for this Geometry Unit.  We end it before the March Break.  Please make time to catch up if you plan to depart for an early holiday.  The lessons covered are specified below.

A number of students in class are using computer options for word processing their written work.  Their typing/keyboarding skills could be supported and improved with home practice at the Dance Mat site at BBC Schools. (link embedded)

Tuesday HW
1.  Review for Unit Test:  text book pages 222-23 # 7-12.
2.  Measurement Unit test on Friday, February 28.
3.  MMS Unit Seven (Geometry):  Lesson 1 pages 94-95.
This is a short unit.  There only four lessons left, which will be completed and tested before the March Break.  If your child is missing school for an early holiday, this would be the work we are doing (unit 7, lessons 1,2,3,4 and 6, all questions in the text book and the MMS book).  Your child should be prepared to write any quizzes on the Tuesday after the break.
4.  We broke into groups for a role play activity connected to our reading.  If you child misses a significant amount of the practice and presentation due to illness or early holidays, he/she will be asked to prepare and present another work of my choosing.  Please let me know if this is the case (holidays) in advance.  Thank you.
5.  Tomorrow we will have a Library book exchange period.

Homework Club was attended by seven students on Monday after school.  We worked on "What a Wonderful World" art, and reviewed for Friday's Math unit test, working out some time and speed problems on the whiteboard.

Monday HW
1.  Review for Unit Test:  text book pages 222-23 # 1-6.
2.  Measurement Unit test on Friday, February 28.
