Thursday HW
1. Math Measurement Quiz on Monday, February 24. Unit 6, lessons 6,7,8 and 9 (but not 10).
2. No other homework tonight.
Reading for the love of it produces results according to EQAO survey (follow link).
Wednesday HW
1. MMS Lesson 9, pages 90-91. About two-thirds of the class did not complete the homework from last night. In particular the portion requiring the use of a measuring cup was deemed "not possible" by a fair number of students. I was surprised to hear students say they did not have a measuring cup at home. I encourage all the boys and girls to attempt the hands-on activities at home, as they do at school. These are the sorts of practical problems most students need more repetitions to solve.
2. A chapter book is a good thing for students to have in class each day for the DEAR times I use. We go to the library at Runnymede school every two weeks to get books -- most recently last Wednesday. Too many students are settling for regular use of my Egyptology and Dragonology books, or rereading my graphic novels. I encourage students to select more age appropriate books that offer more of a challenge and something new to learn about. I certainly possess books like that on my spinner and would be happy to help a student choose a book.
Tuesday HW
1. Ensure that MMS lesson 8, pages 88-89 is finished.
2. The CNIB offers free access to Mp3's of their large collection of audio books (85 000 titles in leisure reading and non-fiction, but no textbooks). Students can self register with their parents as long as they have a public library card. This is an ideal resource for students with a learning disability. Visit the site at
www.cnib.ca/selfregistration to get started.
