Week of October 28 - November 1, 2019

GRADE 6 AND 8:  Recall that my Extra Help times are posted clearly in class.  If you are absent due to illness, vacation, or school activity, then you are obliged to come by during one of these times to catch up.  It is not possible to do this during class time while we are taking up new material.  You have two study buddies assigned to you in grade 6 to whom you can turn if you want to get some support as well.


Thursday HW
6A Notes:  This is homework for the grade 6 class I teach.
1.  20 minutes of reading.
2.  Happy Halloween! The students behaved well during the dance this afternoon.  Their costumes were delightful!
3.  "Making a Monster" assignment posted on Google Classroom.  We are looking at having it finished on Friday.
4.  We spent time on the Othello critique today:  55 minutes.  Several class periods have been provided for this activity, and the rough draft should be done/corrected so that the good copy can be written on Monday in class.

Wednesday HW
6A Notes:  This is homework for the grade 6 class I teach.
1.  20 minutes of reading.
2.  Math Quiz 4 on Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing on was written today. Early finishers worked on their Othello play critiques.
3.  "Making a Monster" assignment posted on Google Classroom.  We are looking at having it finished on Friday.

a)  20 minutes of reading.
b)  We discussed the plot graph and at Summarizing 1,0, both of which were returned.  2.0 front side should be ready for Monday if not already done.
c)  Begin settling on a topic for a personal essay.  We looked at one in class on Uniforms in School and will work on another group topic about conformity before students write one on a topic of their choosing.
d) Remembrance Day writing activity, posted in the Google Classroom, is due on November 1.  The typed piece is to be "Turned In" rather than shared by email.  We had a third day with computer resources in class to use to do it.


Tuesday HW
6A Notes:  This is homework for the grade 6 class I teach.
1.  20 minutes of reading.
2.  Math Quiz 4 on Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing on Wednesday, October 30.  This is a longer quiz and will be broken into two parts.  [Unit 2, Lessons 9, 10, 11, and 12].  We have done several additional practice activities in class in addition to MMS homework and text practice.  These should be examined to prepare for the quiz as well.  We corrected two Long Division practice sheets in class today, and a study sheet was given to prepare for the quiz that focused exclusively on long division.  That page should be brought to class tomorrow.

b)  Summarizing 2.0 for "The Lottery" due on Wednesday October 30.  This was started in class today and builds on earlier work.  Copies of this short story are readily available online and I have texts available for in class use as well.
