Weeks of March 23 - April 3, 2020

Grade 6 Students:

I hope everyone is doing well and managing to keep busy during this challenging time. I miss everyone!  It feels like you might grow 30 cm by the time I see you next!

On the Friday that we left for the March Break, students in attendance received these guidelines (see below) for the two weeks after the March Break and brought home texts and some reproducible sheets from the classroom.  I don't have any of these reproducible sheets with me unfortunately.  An additional item students might want to work on is the book report. As always, doing some reading is a good idea each day. Consider a novel with a survival theme? That was meant to be our next Literature activity.  Hope to see you all soon.

6A Notes:  This is homework for the grade 6 class I teach.
1.  20 minutes of reading.
2.  Week Four of "Holes" reading and vocabulary work.  The quiz for this section will be on Tuesday, January 21.
3.  Gather props, subject to teacher approval, for Holes role play activity.  Students are constructing a script in class this week and lines should be memorized.  We will present early next week, beginning on Tuesday, January 21.
4.  Data management quiz on Unit 5, Lessons 1,2,4, and 5 on Thursday, January 23.

b)  Short Story assignment group work due at end of period on Tuesday, January 21, on a Bristol board sheet (which I will provide).  This is a group assignment that we used class time for.  The instructions are in the Google Classroom.  We start presentations on Wednesday January 22.

3.  Mean, Median and Mode 3.0 in-class assessment.  Students can use the two corrected practice pages done last week as study material.
4.  In preparation for the TDSB One Book event with "Hana's Suitcase", please make a list of (5) five important facts about Auschwitz and at least (1) one question you have about it.  A good place to start is at auschwitz.org, where you can choose the English version of the site and learn a bit about the history of this place.

3.  Terry Fox incentive (long delayed) on Friday afternoon January 10, periods 4 and 5.  Personal electronics including phones or board games are welcome.  Students should not bring items that they are fearful of losing.
4.  Mean, Median and Mode practice sheet 1.0.
5.  From Mr. Wright:  "Please bring a bag to school in order for you to bring home your Remembrance Day stained glass art from your visual arts class."
