I realize that some families are planning trips on the American Thanksgiving weekend. I can suggest activities such as the daily 20 minutes of reading, and the two current, online activities ("Story of Stuff" and "Behind the Door" in the Google Classroom) as work that can be done away from school. Our Math program follows a predictable sequence -- we are doing Lesson 2 and 3 in the Geometry unit over the next two days, for example, directly following on the Lesson 1 which we just finished. I can't send a textbook, because we only have 17 for 33 kids, but students could do the corresponding MMS lessons. The book report is another assignment that could be worked on during a vacation absence outside of regular holidays.
That being said, a fair bit of what we do at school has to be done at school. It isn't suited to remote learning. Group problem solving, rehearsals for presentations, and reading assessments can't take place anywhere else. It's part of the trade-off for a lighter evenings and weekends homework load (at least in terms of what I assign). These are considerations that apply to times around any additional holiday times through the year, such as early/extended Christmas, Family Day, and March Break holidays. I hope this helps outline the general types of things students can do on vacation.
