6A Notes: This is homework for the grade 6 class I teach.
1. 20 minutes of reading -- Hana's Suitcase pages 64-91. Answer this question in your journal:
"What are three important characteristics of Fumiko Ishioka? Name three unique traits and an example from the book that proves each one."
2. MMS pp. 44-45. This is our first lesson in the Number Sense Decimals unit
3. Wednesday was our final day for Social Studies HDI slideshow work using class time. We will have presentations in class beginning on Monday, February 3. Students should be ready to go on that day. If more touch-ups are needed, then that will be homework over the next five nights. We discussed in class what would be necessary for a good presentation:
- "Active Slides" delivery (not reading the slide verbatim to the class).
- Guiding questions (about 2 per slide).
- Adding extra information that is not included on each slide.
- Pointing out the key details on each slide. These should be about 1-3 details per slide.
- Eye contact and verbal expression.
Some independent rehearsal is necessary.
a) 20 minutes of reading.
b) Short Story assignment group drama presentation to plan.
c) Theme 1.0 planning sheet . Complete the Conflict and Characterization boxes on the organizer chart to help plan for the essay we will write. The essay prompt is at the top of the Theme 1.0 notebook page (in the red duo-tang).
